Every day in New Zealand, 44 preborn babies are killed by abortion, and the shockwaves ripple throughout our culture as mothers, fathers, siblings and grandparents live with the wounds of abortion.

Imagine a New Zealand, where regardless of what the law says, the idea of killing a pre-born child through abortion is as unthinkable as killing a 2-year-child would be. Imagine an abortion-free New Zealand, where no babies are killed through any kind of abortion.

This is our goal – an abortion free New Zealand – a country where abortion is unthinkable. A country that is a sanctuary for the pre-born, where the womb is a safe place to be.

The notion that abortion is here to stay and there’s nothing we can do to change it, is firmly ahistorical. History shows that deeply entrenched injustices can be overturned. Movements like the British abolitionists, the fight against child labour, and the civil rights movement changed the unchangeable. They succeeded by exposing injustice through using visual evidence and confronting the culture head-on.

Our organization’s aim is to make abortion unthinkable in New Zealand — like slavery, child labour, or segregation. We must change hearts and minds on abortion in order to save lives.

Political efforts and pastoral support are important, but cultural change starts with education. Unless people recognize abortion as an injustice, they are less likely to support pro-life policies or seek help for a difficult pregnancy.

So, what must we do to make abortion unthinkable and end the killing?

NZCBR’s End the Killing Plan focuses on two key components: We must reach all mature New Zealanders with (1) abortion victim photography (AVP), and (2) compassionate and compelling apologetics. We need to bring both evidence and reason to the court of public opinion, in order to change hearts and minds on abortion.

Abortion Victim Photography (AVP)

Visual evidence has historically fueled social reform. Injustice cannot be ignored when its victims are seen. What injustice has ever been overturned by hiding the victims? We don’t use AVP because we like it. We use it because it works.

Independent polling from our counterparts at the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform Canada shows that 67.4% of people view abortion more negatively after seeing an image of what it does to preborn children.

Additionally, countless stories from pro-lifers who use AVP show people choosing to keep their babies after seeing a video or image of what abortion would to do them. Abortion victim photography saves lives because it makes the invisible visible; it shifts the debate from “choice” to what is actually being chosen.

Human Rights Apologetics

Many Kiwis believe in human rights for all human beings—they just haven’t connected that belief to preborn children. Since we know from science that human life begins at fertilization, shouldn’t human rights start when the human being starts?

Our apologetics have been street-tested through thousands and thousands of conversations, first in Canada, and now in NZ and beyond, bringing together science, human rights, and empathy, in order to have fruitful and effective conversations about abortion — that win the person, not just the argument.

Defy the Culture of Death

The pro-life movement needs to work backwards from the goal of an abortion-free New Zealand, and ask ourselves what must we do to bring about that vision.

What must we do to make abortion unthinkable? We must confront the culture with truth and compassion, using the most effective educational tools available: AVP and human rights apologetics.

Our strategy is an act of defiance against a culture of death that denies human beings in the womb their right to life, that normalizes the killing of vulnerable and defenseless children, and that fails to support mothers and families.

So join us – To change hearts and minds, save lives, and change the culture!
